A great aspect of Icarus is the loss of one’s character as soon as the timer of a mission runs out and the character is still on the planet. Some players probably didn’t realize this, so the developers restored many characters for Christmas.
In order to make the system less punishing, developer RocketWerkz has now introduced an insurance system.
Missions with insurance
Some of the missions now have an “insurance option”. If you tackle such a mission and don’t manage to get your character back off the planet soon enough, your entire character and their progress won’t be gone right away.
Instead, they are returned to the space station.
This option is mostly available on easier missions and is meant to remove a hurdle for new players. About 1/4 of the missions currently have the insurance option.
RocketWerkz itself says about the innovation:
This adjustment is the first of many, giving us a chance for us to test out some theories and concepts we’ve been working on behind the scenes.
Expect more significant changes on this front in future updates.
So getting into the game should now be easier and there is one less variant to watch out for right at the start.
