Quite surprisingly, the developers of Valheim have released the first update of 2022 for Valheim on the test servers.
Players can look forward to new ice caves, enemies, weapons and a comfort function.
Note: The update is currently on the test servers and will only come after a testing period for the normal version of the game!
New content – Frost caves and more
With the Frost Caves, a completely new type of dungeon comes into the game, which can be found in previously unexplored areas.
These caves of course have inhabitants, including the wolf-like Ulv, cultists and bats.
These enemies drop various materials (Red Jute, Fenring Hair and Claws) that can be used to craft the new Fenris Armor Set.
All the pieces worn together grant a bonus to the player.
But also some new furnishing items (Jute Curtain, Jute Carpet, Charcoal Pool) for the own home can be made.
With the “flesh ripper”, a kind of fist weapon, a new way of fighting also comes into play.
Pause function, performance & fixes
In addition to this new content, the developers have also continued to work on performance, Quality of Life changes and bug fixes.
The secret star of the update is the new pause function for the single player. As soon as you enter the menu, the game pauses – and you can leave the computer for a few minutes without having to worry about finding your base in flames.
The new feature has received a lot of positive feedback, especially on Reddit and in the Steam forums.
Full support for playing with a controller, an FPS limiter and improvements for the build marker round out the Quality of Life section.
Finally, further work was done on the performance and various problems and bugs were fixed.
The complete patch notes can be found in the corresponding announcement on Steam.
