Looking at the setting and the player’s starting point, Under a Rock could be an interesting mix of ARK: Survival Evolved and Zelda waiting for us next year.
What is “Under a Rock” about?
In Under a Rock, you start as a survivor who is washed ashore on a deserted island. From then on, you have to survive, build a base and fight all kinds of creatures.
However, some of the creatures themselves look so cuddly and cute that you might realize too late how dangerous they are.
Said animals can be tamed, ridden and even reproduced over time.
So much for ARK – if you want to look at it that way.
Unlike in ARK, Under a Rock is set in the nineteenth century and you are not a mysterious survivor, but an adventurer who has discovered this new place.
In addition to these elements, there are also some puzzles and riddles and gadgets such as a paraglider and grappling hooks, which are more reminiscent of a Zelda spin-off and with which you have to unravel the secrets of the island.
The game also features a nice character editor and a modular base-building system that allows you to customize your character and your island to your liking.
The graphic style of Under a Rock is somewhere in the middle and, together with the procedural generation of the lush island on which you play, provides a breath of fresh air in the survival genre.
Under a Rock is played either alone or in co-op with up to 10 players. PvP elements are not yet available on the game’s Steam page.
The game does not yet have a release date, but according to current information, the developers are aiming for a release sometime next year in 2024.
In any case, the Steam page is already online and if you like the first impression, you can of course follow it.
