In the early days of the survival genre, one title attracted attention with negative headlines at best – and that was The Stomping Land.
The genre’s first dinosaur survival is now suddenly getting updates again, years after it was declared dead.

Negative example of Early Access
The survival title launched into Early Access on Steam in 2014 after pre-funding a sum of $114,000+ via the Kickstarter platform.
After the release, however, there were often weeks and later months in which nothing was heard from the developer – and after former employees also claimed lead developer Alex “Jig” Fundora was no longer available and went into hiding with the money, the game was declared dead and also got no more updates, flew out of the Steam Store.
Since then, The Stomping Land has been pretty much THE example of the dangers of Early Access, Kickstarter games, and how developers wanted to exploit the survival hype.
Now, a full eight years later, the developer is back and producing new updates for the game.
This is how the game is supposed to continue
The developer seems to be fully aware that everything around his game is considered scorched earth for many. As one of the first steps, he published a Q&A about the most important issues.
In it, he explains, among other things, that his inexperience in game development led to the game being developed with speed in mind rather than a sensible structure.
He also states that he has made great strides in game development, programming and content creation in the time since the game crashed.
In the future, he would rather convince with actions and content than to promise things that might not be kept.
New updates are to appear on the development branch on Steam at weekly intervals, with the goal of eventually arriving at a justifiable version of the game that he himself would also like to play.
However, these new features can only be tested by players who bought the game before it left the Steam store.
Community does not trust the matter
Basically, the ball is in the developer’s court, and he has to back up his words with actions. Meanwhile, the community still doesn’t know what to make of the matter.
The developer is being accused of rip-offs, a renewed attempt to market the banned brand and a lot of talk about nothing.
However, the developer himself says that there are currently no plans to offer the game for sale again, nor to develop a second part, but to really just deliver the product that was promised.
Not necessarily in his favor, however, is the fact that at least according to the current Steam news, no more updates have been released since mid-May.
So it remains to be seen whether The Stomping Land will eventually become at least a halfway finished game.
