Steam has quietly released a new feature on its gaming platform. You can now try out selected games for free without buying them.
Here’s how the new feature works
In the past, trying out a game on Steam meant buying it and then deciding whether or not to keep the title within the exchange period of 14 days or 2 hours of play.
The new feature, on the other hand, lets you simply download the game and play it for 1.5 hours.
To do this, simply visit the page of the participating game, click on “Play now” and start playing.
If you like the title, you buy it afterwards, otherwise you don’t – quite simple really.
Currently, the new feature only seems to be available for the Dead Space remake.
Fittingly, the title is currently on sale.
The offer runs until May 29th, so you can probably try out the game for free during that time.
Beyond that, there is no information on when and if the feature will be extended to other players or which games are planned for it.
If this test run works well, it could well mean the return of game demos as we know them from earlier times.
