The April update for Rust is here and brings new ways to get around, in the form of ziplines and an above-ground rail network but also other improvements for the monuments.

Procedural rail network

The first version of an above-ground procedural rail network is available on the live servers.
This will be generated on all maps of size 4250 or higher.

Currently it is only a single rail line that represents a circuit around the island.
There are currently no real gameplay elements, but these will probably follow in the future.

Power line Ziplines

New platforms and cable cars have been added to the large power line supports.

You can use the cable cars to get from one platform to another or to the site of a monument.

You can speed up or slow down your ride selectively, but you should watch out for collisions with trees, players and vehicles.

New achievements

The achievements available in the game have been revised and increased to 18 pieces, which now also refer to some of the more recent new content for Rust.

However, the achievements can still only be achieved on official servers.

Monument lighting part 2

In the April update, the developers also continue their work on improving the lighting of all monuments.

This time it was the turn of the lighthouse, the fishing village, the stables, the excavator, the arctic research base and the airfield.

Of course, depending on the status of the monument being worked on, the amount of work has varied. Older monuments have received major overhauls than, for example, the rightly new Arctic research base.

Ambient lighting has been improved and the lighting inside now better adapts to the time of day.

The biggest changes, however, were done at the airfield, where, in addition to the lighting itself, some materials and textures were worked on, giving the monument a much more modern look.

Analysis of the official servers

Balancing Rust is an elaborate and difficult process, as there is a lot of content and gameplay to consider.

With a new analysis tool, the developers now want to collect more data to better distribute resources and better identify potential balancing problems.

This analysis will only be used on the official servers for now, but it won’t affect normal gameplay in any way.

Further changes

Further changes and innovations in a compact overview:

  • Landmine overhaul: The landmines have been visually redesigned.
  • Loading Screen Background: Loading screen background images now change.
  • Magnetic crane: Further improvements for the junkyard crane.
