Rust – Make your Mark update brings more map options into the game

The April update for Rust is here and brings among other things new map options, a ping system, double saddles and the Easter event to the game!

Map marker upgrade

With the Make your Mark update, you can now place up to five markers on the map. A new interface helps you to make them easier and to keep them apart.

Simply right-click on the desired location on the map and a window will open with the new options. If you have created more than the maximum number of markers (normal value: 5), you will have to remove a previous marker before you can place a new one.

To adjust or delete a marker, simply click on it with the left mouse button.

Only the first three letters of the markers are displayed on the compass.
If you are part of a team, you will see both your own markers and those of your team leader.

Ping system

Many players might already know the ping system from games like Apex Legends or Hunt: Showdown, and now it’s making its way into Rust.
With these quick markers you can communicate things faster to your team.

To set pings you need to be inside CCTV cameras or drones, or use binoculars.

Then you have to press the keybind for the marker (default: mouse 3 (press middle mouse button / mouse wheel)) and depending on what you are targeting a contextual ping will be displayed depending on what you are targeting – an ore deposit, a weapon, a crate and so on.

If you hold down the ping button, you will get a radial menu where you can select the type of ping:

If you press the button twice in quick succession, a red ping is displayed, for example to indicate an enemy.
After a maximum of 10 seconds, this ping disappears again.

Double saddle

With the April update you can now mount a horse together with a team member. Horses will spawn with a single saddle as before, but you can replace it with a double saddle if you wish.
Both saddle items can be purchased from the stable master.

New item world models

Some more items have received new world models. World models are displayed when you drop an item in the game world.

All shotgun ammo types have now received their own world model, while some other models have been revised to help you recognize the items:

• Street Shield Gloves
• Snap trap
• High velocity rockets
• Fire rockets
• Shotgun Ammo

Improvements & Fixes

• Ignore Loot: You can now ALT-click items to ignore loot containers
• Computer UI: Life meter, most important buttons, exit button are displayed
• Floating container: If a boat or submarine is destroyed, the loot now floats in containers on the water surface
• Vending Machines & Genetics: Vending machines and the marketplace now display the genetics of the plants.
• Steam Nickname Fix: The team interface will now display Steam nicknames.
• Placing Doors: Doors should now be able to be placed when placeable items like the sleeping bag are “in the way”.
• Rust Safe Mode: There is now an option to run Rust in minimalist “Safe Mode” to help diagnose issues.

Easter Event

Until next Thursday (April 13) the Easter event in Rust is active. In this event you have to collect Easter eggs.

Every 24-38 hours (game time) an Easter egg hunt will start. Then you have 3 minutes to collect as many Easter eggs as possible.
The top 3 of the server will then get special reward Easter eggs, which can contain items up to an M249.

Tip: The Easter egg basket and the rabbit ears have the bonuses to pick up eggs immediately and to see them better!

But also all the others do not go empty-handed. As usual, you can exchange the painted Easter eggs in the levels bronze, silver and gold up, in which you combine 10 eggs of the previous level.
The higher the level, the better the items you can get when you open the eggs.
