The survival title Rust has been a staple for years, both in the genre itself and in the gaming landscape in general.
Now the game has broken a record milestone in terms of sales.

Record milestone in sales

As developer Facepunch Studios has now announced, Rust has sold over 12 million copies. This is evident from the review that the developers recently published on Steam, among other places.

According to this, over 12,481,079 copies of Rust have now been sold, in addition to more than 1.1 million DLC packs sold.
Last year, 1.37 million viewers also watched simultaneously in the Rust category of the livestreaming platform.

Success all along the line for the survival sandbox mix, which impresses above all with action-packed raids and amusing VOIP interactions.

Facepunch itself commented as follows:

2021 was an exceptional year for Rust in almost all regards, after 8 years of continuous development Rust has gone from strength to strength.

In 2021 Rust blew up on Twitch, we saw record-high player counts, released Voice Props DLC Pack, World revamp, missions, freight trains, underwater labs, gestures, submarines, MLRS and so much more.

An 8-year triumph-run

Rust has already been around since 2013, back when the game started as a kind of alternative to the then long-running DayZ. Originally, the style was kept even more realistic and there were zombies as the biggest PvE challenge.

By the time of its full release in 2018, the survival title underwent a major transformation, changing the complete graphic style. The developers continuously pumped content into the game and tweaked their interpretation of a survival sandbox mix.

Even today, Rust still receives monthly updates, some of which are very extensive, and with its multitude of servers, some of which have been heavily modified, it almost resembles a kind of Garry’s mod.

Currently, it doesn’t look like Facepunch wants to stop releasing new content for Rust – and it will continue to be exciting to see where the game will go.

What can you expect from us in 2022? More of the same! Guaranteed monthly updates every first Thursday of the month along with occasional hotfixes and holiday events.

The perseverance and continuous work on the game was rewarded by the players with good ratings and numerous purchases – which now culminated in the record milestone.
