Two big Twitch streamers are teaming up with a developer studio to create the next big open-world survival shooter.
Here is all the info on Project Astrid, the project from Shroud, Sacriel and Splash Damage that is currently available.
Streamers team up with online PvP experts
The vision behind Project Astrid – currently probably just a “codename” for the title – is to develop the “next big thing” for the survival genre.
For this, streamers Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek and Chris “Sacriel” Ball have teamed up with the British studio Splash Damage, which was responsible for titles like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Dirty Bomb and Gears of War 4 in the past and is currently also working on Transformers: Reactive.
As far as content is concerned, everyone involved has revealed very little so far, but we already have this info:
- It is supposed to be your survival shooter
- The game is supposed to be open world
- They have been working on the project for over two years
- Shroud and Sacriel are heavily involved in development
This project means everything to me. Chris and I have refined a vision for what’s next in the survival genre and with Splash Damage we’re setting out to build it. We want to build the best survival game ever, and with Sacriel’s brain and Splash Damage’s team, I know we can do it.
– Shroud on Project Astrid
For both streamers and development studio Splash Damage, the project represents a step in a whole new direction, as CEO Richard Jolly pointed out in the press release:
Founding from friends who met in online PvP, Splash Damage has been passionate about crafting unforgettable multiplayer experiences for over 20 years. Project Astrid is the culmination of this passion, born out of a partnership with two close friends, who also happen to be incredibly well-respected experts in our industry. We’re excited to share something fresh with our fans as we take a bold step forward and craft a game that’s truly different from anything we’ve done before.
– Richard Jolly, CEO of Splash Damage
The video released for the announcement revealed little additional information about the project, but at this point, that’s all we have for now:

Michael “shroud” Grzesiek is a Canadian streamer who is probably known to most people these days from the streaming platform Twitch.tv. There, Shroud is one of the most successful streamers and has collected over 10.5 million followers on his channel. In addition to a variety of shooters, he also plays through several survival and battle royale games.
Before his streaming time, Shroud was an active eSports player in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. He celebrated his greatest successes there with Team Cloud9.
Who is Sacriel?
Chris “Sacriel” Ball is a British streamer who has been active full-time on the streaming platform Twitch.tv since 2012. He got his start during the height of the DayZ mod, among other things, and after that he played pretty much everything that had some sort of meaning in the survival and battle royale world.
In his stream, he often discussed the strengths and weaknesses of the individual games and expressed his desire to work on a game of his own design.
