In Pacific Drive you take on the role of a “breacher” who has gained unauthorized access to a restricted zone in the Pacific Northwest and must now try to survive in it.
Your only companion and guarantee of survival is your car.
A companion on four wheels
The developers themselves call Pacific Drive a “run-based, first-person driving survival game”. And that actually describes the whole thing quite well.
You take your car on forays into the zone, which is teeming with anomalies and strange events.
Anomalies, acid rain, strong storms, toxic spore clouds and more await you on the trips.
Of course, the car will get the brunt of it and you’ll have to adapt it to the adverse conditions. Of course, you’ll find the right parts for it in the most dangerous places in the zone – and so you’ll drive from one mess to the next and try to get out of it in one piece.
As a reward, you can upgrade your trusty vehicle with all sorts of protective measures and gadgets, from various detectors and scanners to protective shields and more classic speed boosts for tricky situations.
The story trailer presented at gamescom 2023 gives you new insights into the game.
It also reveals that Pacific Drive is scheduled for release in early 2024 for the PC (on Steam and in the Epic Games Store) and the PlayStation 5.
