A new adventure map transforms the peaceful sandbox title Minecraft into a Doom-style shooter. We introduce you to the map!
Inspired by Doom – but not simply copied
With Doomed: Demons of the Nether, developer Sibogy has created an adventure map in over two years and about 1200 hours of work alone, which, while undoubtedly inspired by the original from id Software, draws a clear line.
To the colleagues of PCGamesN Sibogy said: “I didn’t want to make a 1-to-1 copy, because then you could just play Doom. If something looked good and interesting, I tried to incorporate it”
The single player map includes four levels that take us to Mars, the Foundry, the UAC facility and the Nether. At various points within the maps, features such as cutscenes, boss fights, collectible items and various weapons along with ammo await the player.
The limitations imposed by Minecraft were the biggest challenge for the developer. Planned content like glory kills and dashing could therefore unfortunately not be implemented.
Considering the fact that this is an adventure map and not a modification of the game, Sigoby has delivered a fantastic result, creating a 90s-style shooter within the Minecraft framework.
How to play Doomed: Demons of the Nether
If you want to check it out for yourself, you can find the map now on Planet Minecraft, with installation instructions available on the project’s official page.
The map is completely free.
