I am Legend – Sequel in the works

It took a long time, but after more than 15 years the cat is finally out of the bag – “I am Legend” gets a sequel and main actor Will Smith is also back in the game.

So we can probably look forward to another adventure in the world destroyed by a mutated virus!

Yes, “I am Legend 2” is coming!

There were already talks about a sequel about ten years ago, but at some point the topic was no longer pursued and due to the discarded alternative ending, the plans were scrapped.
Now it seems to become more specific and there is the first information about “I am Legend 2”.

The leading role will again be played by Will Smith, who will again portray Robert Neville.
He will be joined by Michael B. Jordan, who some may know from “Black Panther”.

It is also known that Smith and Jordan are not only actors but also producers.

Will Smith probably more or less already confirmed the announcement through a teaser image he recently posted.

Review of the story and possible connecting points

A review: In “I am Legend” humanity is taken by a mutated virus, with which actually cancer should be cured.
However, this turns people into light-shy and instinct-driven infected people who prey on others.

As one of the last survivors, Doctor Robert Neville tries to find an antidote for the disease and meets Anna and her son Ethan in the course of the film.
During the course of the film, the doctor apparently actually manages to make some initial progress towards a cure, but has needed many “test subjects” to do so.

The film ends with the infected Dr. Neville. Anna and Ethan track them down and after a final fight in the basement of the house, only Anna and Ethan manage to escape and make it to a survivor camp.

Alternate ending

There is, however, an alternate version in which there is a different ending. Instead of seemingly blowing themselves and all the infected up, here there is some sort of communication between Robert Neville and the infected, who actually just want to retrieve their leader’s companion, who is starting to show signs of healing.

When the doctor releases the woman, it can be seen that the infected are also communicating with each other and they leave the house before Robert, Anna and Ethan then come together to the survivor camp.

For a sequel, the alternative ending, which was discarded due to pressure from the film studio shortly before the release, is probably better suited.

Or Robert Neville somehow survived the explosion and we start at that point. It wouldn’t be the first time that a character believed to be dead returns in Hollywood.
