The so-called “Burn Traits” are a new feature in the currently running Tide of Shadows event in Hunt: Showdown.
However, the mechanics did not work as intended in some places. A new hotfix addresses this and other bugs.

Temporary abilities are now temporary again
Burn traits are temporary abilities that were supposed to be deleted from the character after they were used. However, in many cases this new mechanic was not really functional.
In particular, the “Cheat Death” skill remained after the first extraction of the hunter in question, even after his demise, and did not burn
The skill ensures that when the team finally dies, the fighter is reset to the status it had before the round, but loses all equipment in the process.
However, the logic behind it probably worked too well – because after the first extraction with the ability, it was apparently also recognized as the hunter’s state with and remained.
The result was a real flood of high-level hunters, who made the bayou unsafe with all their abilities.
The developers have now fixed this with the first hotfix for the 1.13 update.
Why Crytek took three weeks to fix such an impactful bug, however, will probably not be resolved.
Balancing and bugfixing
At the same time as the important fix, the hotfix also brought some other things.
For example, the incorrectly reduced damage of the fire ammunition was corrected again, the Drilling is now correctly counted as a rifle and the scatter of its shotgun function was also corrected.
Crytek has also worked on the new “Thundershower” weather condition. Some players with AMD graphics cards were not getting rain at all or not getting it correctly, and others were apparently getting tar drops rather than water from the sky due to problems with the post-processing effects.
Both should now also be a thing of the past.
Also important to mention is the fix for a bug when spawning into a game round. So it was possible that you could spawn as an additional person on another team and/or the partners of a team started scattered all over the map.
Since this was not intended, this has also been improved.
Adjustment of the contracts & Rotjaw spawn
Previously, you could choose to play the regular Standard Contract or play the Wildcard Contract with the new Thundershower weather condition, allowing you to encounter the new boss Rotjaw.
With today’s hotfix, the wildcard contract has been removed and all times of day and weather conditions have been added to the standard contract.
You now have the following setting options in the default contract:
- Neutral
- Fog
- Gold
- Sunrise
- Sunset
- Serpent Moon night
- Thundershower (Rain, increased chance)
The new boss Rottjaw now has a chance to spawn at the following times of day/weather conditions:
- Fog
- Sunset
- Serpent Moon night
- Thundershower (Rain)
If you start a round with the four conditions above and see only one boss target, then 100% of the time Rottjaw will also be on the map.
We have, of course, adjusted our Rottjaw boss guide to that effect as well.
