Last year, Bethesda announced a major, free 4K update for Fallout 4 as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
However, anyone who was looking forward to making another visit to the spruced-up Commonwealth over the holidays will be disappointed – as the update has been officially postponed until 2024.
No next-gen update for Christmas
The developers announced the news on X (formerly Twitter), thanking fans for their patience so far and stating that a little more time was needed to complete the update.
Thank you for your patience with us as we work on the Fallout 4 next-gen update. We know you're excited, and so are we! But we need a bit more time and look forward to an exciting return to the Commonwealth in 2024.

The “next-gen update” for Fallout 4 will bring improvements for the PC, Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5. The developers promise performance mode feature for higher frame rates, quality features for resolutions up to 4k as well as some bug fixes and new content for the Creation Club.
Even if some fans seem a little disappointed to have to wait any longer, it is probably better to get a mature update and Bethesda has confirmed that it will continue to work on the update.
There is currently no new date or time frame, but perhaps the update will be released sometime around April 12, 2024, when the Fallout TV series also makes its debut.
