Escape from Tarkov – New event introduces ammunition shortage

The developers of Escape from Tarkov have once again changed the conditions in the game as part of an event, this time there is an ammunition shortage that you first have to “unlock”.

Meta ammunition no longer available

After a letter was published via X (formerly Twitter), which showed a whole list of ammunition types, the same ammunition was no longer available in the game.
On the one hand, ammunition can no longer be sold via the flea market and on the other hand, none of the dealers sell the ammunition types mentioned in the list directly, not even in limited quantities.

The following are affected:

• .45 ACP (ACP AP)
• 5.7x28mm (SS190)
• 4.6x30mm (FMJ SX)
• 5.56x45mm (M855A1, M856A1)
• .300 blc (M62 Tracer, CBJ)
• 7.62x51mm NATO (M80, M62 Tracer)
• .338 Lapua (FMJ)
• 12/70 (Flechette, AP-20)
• 23x75mm
• 9x19mm (PBP gzh)
• 9x21mm (BT gzh)
• 9x39mm (SP-6 GS, SPP GS)
• .366 TKM (AP-M)
• 5.45x39mm (PP gs, BP gs, BT gs)
• 7.62x39mm (PP gzh, BP gzh)
• 7.62×54 R (T-46M gzh, LPS gzh, PS gzh, BT gzh, BS gs)

If you take a closer look at the list, you will see that pretty much all “meta ammunition”, i.e. ammunition that is one of the best in the game later on, is affected.

However, you can still exchange the ammunition for other items at merchants, provided they offer it and still have some in stock.
Accordingly, the prices for the exchange items have now skyrocketed.

Quest with access to ammunition and THICC case

However, there is a way to unlock some ammunition again. You can now get the quest “The Punisher – Harvest” from the merchant Peacekeeper.

For this, you have to kill 50 PMCs – i.e. main player characters – in the game and also hand in 50 dog tags whose players were over level 25 and whose condition was “found in the raid”.

As a reward, you will then receive the “THICC Case”, one of the largest containers in the game, as well as the opportunity to buy the following ammunition directly from Peacekeeper at level 1:

• 5.56x45mm SSA AP
• 7.62x39mm MAI AP
• 7.62x51mm M993
• 9x19mm PBP gzh

First signs of the wipe?

Of course, many are immediately thinking of the first signs of the upcoming wipe in Escape from Tarkov, which has been announced for sometime in December. But it’s actually still too early for that.
This is because the release of the spin-off Escape from Tarkov: Arena will probably take place first, before the focus returns to the main game.

The current event is more likely to serve to keep the remaining players in EFT happy.
