A little over a year after its release, the developers of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt have now announced that development of the battle royale title will no longer continue.

In the following article, you can read about the future of the free-to-play game and some of the reasons for the decision.

End of further development

With an announcement the developers of Sharkmob turned to the community today and announced the end of the further development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt:

Ever since launch, we have been on a journey to excite and delight our players, however, while we have an amazing and very engaged community, we haven’t been able to reach the critical mass needed to sustain development. This has led us to the decision to stop further development of Bloodhunt.

After all, Sharkmod wants to keep the game’s servers online as long as there are still enough active players for the title. In addition, the upcoming final update for the battle royale title is supposed to bring along some innovations that are supposed to provide a breath of fresh air even without further content updates.
Among other things, players will be able to vote on upcoming innovations in the game, and it will also be possible to only earn paid content for the title.

All possibilities to pay with real money in the game will be abolished until September 26.
After the update, the game will only go into a “maintenance mode”.

Of course, it is questionable how big the interest of the community will be in time without big updates with new classes, weapons, story snippets and more.

Reasons for the demise of Bloodhunt

But what was the reason at all that Bloodhunt couldn’t hold its own? On the one hand, it was probably due to the partially poor technical state of the game. Especially the first big update after the launch caused more problems than solutions and as a F2P title Bloodhunt also had to fight a lot with cheaters.

On top of that, Sharkmob hadn’t set itself up very broadly with a release only on the PC and PlayStation 5. The Xbox community was left out completely, the current-gen consoles as well.
The fact that Bloodhunt is free-to-play made this step even more incomprehensible, as it simply excluded a large portion of the potential player base.

Last but not least, the Vampire Battle-Royale also wanted to push itself in a market that is already dominated by titles like PUBG, Apex Legends, Fortnite and Warzone.

All of these factors led to a rapid drop in player numbers despite your fairly strong start with great popularity.
At the time of writing, about 1000 players are still playing the Steam version.
