The Walking Dead: Betrayal was only launched in Early Access on Steam in September and is now already being shut down and discontinued.
The game will soon be completely removed from Steam.
Game to be discontinued in December
As developer Skybound Games and publisher Other Ocean Interactive have now announced, the game has not been able to attract the number of players it was intended for.
The game will be shut down completely in just a few days:
Despite the hard work put into the game, we were not able to find a path to build the spirited community of backstabbers we originally envisioned.
On December 11, we will begin the process of removing the game from Steam, and as of December 15 the game will be shut down.
The Walking Dead: Betrayal actually pursued a rather interesting approach, as it mixed survival aspects in a zombie apocalypse scenario with the gameplay of Among Us, in which a few players have to ensure the death of the rest of the group as traitors without being discovered.
The game is therefore categorized as a “social deception” and “survival” game and should actually appeal to a large target group.
However, The Walking Dead: Betrayal does not seem to have succeeded. Even after the beta test and the subsequent Early Access launch, the game was barely able to maintain the three-digit player numbers and, from October onwards, was in the double-digit and often single-digit player numbers.
Refund for all players
The few players who enjoyed the title were disappointed by the news, but unfortunately these figures are not enough to justify further development.
At least the developers have announced that everyone who has bought the game will get their money back.
To do this, the game can simply be returned via a refund on Steam, and help is offered via the developer Skybound’s ticket system in the event of problems.
