For some, the third season of The Cycle: Frontier was a glimmer of hope that the game could recover. But now it’s clear: The Extraction shooter from Berlin-based developer studio Yager will be discontinued completely.

A brief look back at The Cycle’s progression

The launch in 2019 in the Epic Games Store did not go so well for The Cycle, and as The Cycle: Frontier, the shooter, which was released as a Free2Play title, was able to convince some players from the end of 2021.
Over 40,000 players started their excursions to alien planets and fought against monsters and each other.

Then, however, both updates and measures against the increasing number of cheaters were a long time coming – and by the time the comprehensive anti-cheat measures were in place, a large part of the player base had already migrated.
With the release of the third season, it first seemed as if The Cycle could recover, but in the end it was probably not enough.

It seems that The Cycle was just as unsuccessful against the direct Extraction shooter competition in the form of Hunt: Showdown and Escape from Tarkov as it was against the online shooter top dogs âla Counter Strike: Global Offensive, PUBG or Warzone.

Reasons for the shutdown

In a statement on the official site, the developers write:

Today’s news we share with a heavy heart. The Cycle: Frontier will shut down on September 27, 2023. Making this decision was very difficult for us, but ultimately it was a necessary one.

The reason for the shutdown, according to the company, is the financial situation, as the game is simply not financially viable for Yager.

Despite our best efforts and meaningful improvements brought to the game since launch and up until the release of Season 3, the reality is that The Cycle: Frontier is unfortunately not financially viable.

For the remaining players, the following points are important now:

  • On September 27, 2023, the servers will be shut down.
  • All purchases since June 14 are to be refundable
  • All in-game offers are to be reduced by up to 95%.
  • The Premium Pass will be given away, the progression in it will be accelerated
