It’s been a bit quiet in the survival sector lately, but a new title is about to turn the genre upside down – Road to Vostok.
The second demo phase for the ambitious hardcore survival shooter is scheduled for this fall.
Ultra Hardcore Survival
In Road to Vostok you find yourself in the post-apocalyptic region “Vostok”, a fictional border region between Finland and Russia.
In classic survival style you have to survive, equip yourself better and eliminate enemies that get in your way.
If you make it out of the zone, you’ll also have a merchant at your disposal.
One of the main aspects of Road to Vostok is the extremely realistic weapon behavior and handling, which is based on factors such as recoil, arm endurance, breath control, the ready position and aiming aids such as sights, lasers and night vision.
In the finished game, the wear and tear of the weapons should then be added, which can lead to malfunctions.
In addition to weapons, there are 10 different health states, a dynamic loot system (so equipment never spawns in the same place twice) and a physics-based placement system.
Developer with a vision
Surprisingly, behind Road to Vostok is just a single developer named Antti, a former officer in the Finnish army.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Antti stated that the survival genre lacked innovation – and he was willing to change that with Road to Vostok.
He believes he has the right background and skills to do so.
You can see for yourself in the fall of 2023, when the next demo phase of the game will be available on Steam.
The last demo was able to inspire over 400,000 players on Steam and is still available.
