A new event in Escape from Tarkov started this weekend.
The scavs have sealed off various maps and demand a toll, but one map is always freely accessible.

We’ll tell you what’s behind it!

Story behind the event

In a video of Fence, one of the players and traders in Tarkov, he explains that the Norvinsk region has always belonged to those we know from the game as Scav, the common people.
Companies like TerraGroup Corp and the PMC’s embodied by the players are the real invaders – and the Scavs don’t want to put up with that anymore.

That’s why they have completely sealed off some regions and are charging way tolls for entry, except for completely “new faces” (new players) in Tarkov.
In addition, the boss of the Scav faction emphasizes that it would not be a bad idea to get in good with him.

This changes in the game

The following things have currently changed in the game itself: All maps can now only be entered for a toll, but these are various items, not money.

Weapon parts, gas analyzer, stim injectors, water bottles or computer components are required – basically a random selection of all possible items except weapons and money in the game.
You must carry these items in your PMC’s inventory to enter the map.

However, one map is always free to enter. If a total number of kills (both PMCs and Scavs) has been reached on the map, a new map will be unlocked and the other maps will only be accessible with a toll from then on.

You can check the current status of this “kill counter” and the next map that will be unlocked on the event website.

What exactly happens once all maps are “played through” or what purpose the event serves is not yet clear.

First test for map restriction?

The timing of the developers’ launch of the event is interesting. Because just this week, a patch was applied that made preparations for what appears to be a new feature in the game.

So there are now the variables “Minimum player level” and “Maximum player level” for all maps in the game.
In addition, there is now a variable for a “Minimum level for access cards”, such as the Labs access card.

This was found out by the well-known data miner LogicalSolutions, who shared his find on Twitter:

The current event could therefore be a first test of how the player flows, which are gradually directed to certain maps, affect the gameplay and performance.
However, it should not be considered a kind of pre-wipe event according to the current state of knowledge.
