In a statement on Twitter, the developers of Dying Light 2: Stay Human gave the playtime for a normal playthrough and also for players who want to see everything in the game.
However, the mentioned numbers did not only cause positive reactions – we show why!
Hundreds of hours for 100% completion
In the statements on Twitter, it is said that completing the story and some side quests as well as some exploration in the game world should probably be around 70-80 hours.
However, if you want to experience all the endings and try out every decision option, complete all the quests and explore every corner of the world – you’ll need at least 500 hours for that, according to Techland.
Depending on your playstyle and your own drive, it could also be much faster or slower – so such statements should be taken with a grain of salt.
UPDATE:
500 hours is related to maxing out the game – finishing all the quests, endings, and exploring every part of the world, but a regular player should finish the story + side quests and do quite a lot of exploring in less than 100 hours, so don't worry! 🥰 https://t.co/4R641zkLpg— Dying Light (@DyingLightGame) January 8, 2022
The feedback from the community was prompt and numerous. Some players are already looking forward to such extensive possibilities to experience the game and answered how many dozens to thousands of hours they have already spent with the predecessors.
Fear that quantity comes before quality
The feedback was far from all positive, however. Some players groaned at the very thought of spending hundreds of hours on a single game and questioned what exactly should keep you busy for 500 hours in the game.
In fact, this question arises because already in other open world titles, completing all tasks, exploring all locations and interesting points on the map quickly became rather tough and repetitive activity.
Another point of criticism is that the developers would hardly be able to focus on qualitative content if they try to create content for 500 hours of gameplay at the same time.
Some users even questioned whether Techland really sees this argument as a selling point and whether they wouldn’t hurt themselves more with such statements.
In the end, of course, you have to ask yourself how many players even want to go through several playthroughs, let alone aim for a 100% completion.
However, such a high playtime is more likely to deter players than make them jump for joy in both cases.
