The survival sandbox title 7 Days to Die received an extensive update with Alpha 20 shortly before Christmas, which then also made the jump to the stable version at short notice.
This allowed the player numbers to rise to the highest values since the Early Access release in 2013.
Highest player numbers since Early Access launch
Average player numbers have always hovered around 20,000 throughout last year, but the release of the update more than doubled that figure. Players are rewarding the new content with a lot of interest, with more than 43,000 players testing the new features these days. (Source: Steamcharts)
In terms of the maximum number of players playing simultaneously on Steam, 7 Days to Die also broke its old record of just under 46,000 in April 2021 – over 70,000 players played simultaneously in the last 30 days.
In addition, the game is currently ranked the 12th most played game on Steam. The “Fun Pimps”, the developers are happy – they recently announced the happy news on Twitter.

However, 7 Days to Die was already successful even before the current renewed rise. As one of the oldest survival sandbox titles on the market, the game has sold over 13 million copies to date and is also playable on Xbox and PlayStation in addition to Steam.
An end to the Early Access, which has now lasted for over eight years, is not yet in sight.
What currently motivates players
As mentioned above, the reason for the high player numbers is the release of Alpha 20.
Among other things, the update brought a completely new version of the world generator, introduced hundreds of new interesting locations, brought new weapons and zombies into the game, and improved and simplified the building system.
Also included in the update were a variety of optimizations, a new render system and Twitch integration.
